Advent 2024

Worship Services

"In Advent our scriptures ask worshipers to keep awake, to turn anew toward the expectation of the coming Christ, to remove obstacles to God's movement, to nurture the divine presence within, waiting to be born into the world. This season promises to show up God's radical solidarity with the human condition, even as its most vulnerable, to prepare us to be transformed." (Sundays and Seasons)

Throughout the Advent season, the St. John's community will gather for worship every Sunday at 9:00am in-person and online, and at 11:30am in-person. The sanctuary is adorned with beautifully green Christmas trees and a divine Advent wreath that the congregation will light progressively each Sunday in December. Additionally, St. John's will offer a Blue Christmas service on Sunday, December 8. We will conclude the Advent season on Tuesday, December 24th and Wednesday, December 25th as we welcome to birth of  Jesus Christ. We welcome you to experience the joy, anticipation, wonder, and stillness of this Advent season here at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Santa Lucia Service & Festival

A beloved St. John's tradition and a connection to the Scandinavian Lutheran heritage, the Santa Lucia Service and Festival reminds us that Christ illuminates our way through life and awakens us to the needs of others. This youth-centered worship service and festival brings a joy-filled spirit to the Advent season as we join hands and dance around the Christmas tree!

Sunday, December 15 - Santa Lucia Service & Festival (4pm in the Sanctuary)

Participation from Elementary, Middle & High Schoolers

The Santa Lucia Service and Festival is a unique opportunity for high schoolers to shine and make a meaningful impact in our church. We’re searching for our next Santa Lucia, someone who embodies the spirit of kindness, compassion, and service. We’re also looking for middle school girls to join the Santa Lucia court and accompany the crowned Santa Lucia! Elementary aged students, we need YOU to help make this year’s Santa Lucia Festival extra special! After the beautiful Santa Lucia service, you’ll get to dance around the tree in your fun, festive red vests and help hand out delicious homemade cookies to everyone. It’s a super fun way to celebrate, dance, and spread joy this Advent! Do you want to be a part of something truly special this Christmas season? Reach out to Lily Kimmelshue if you would like to apply for Santa Lucia, or the court: lilly_kimmelshue@hotmail.com.

We'll begin the Advent season with our beloved Advent Festival - complete with wreath making and activities for people of all ages - and in the middle of the month, travel to a nearby retirement community for afternoon Christmas Caroling. We hope to see your whole family at one of these fun events!
