For the Gift of the Christ Child Advent season, the St. John’s leadership has chosen four mission partners to highlight who closely align with St. John’s values. Throughout these four Sundays of Advent, we invite you to give a special offering to one of these four mission partners listed below, or to an organization calling to you, also listed below.
If you would like to give to the Gift of the Christ Child Benevolence offering online, please click the link below under the organization you would like to give to and write in the organization's name in the memo line when donating online. You will need to submit a separate online offering for each organization you would like to donate to. Please remember to write the organization's name in the memo line for each online donation!
If you would like to give to the Gift of the Christ Child Benevolence offering via check or cash, please make one check out to St. John's Lutheran Church, write in the memo line "Gift of the Christ Child", and fill out a "Gift of the Christ Child Benevolence Choices" document, found here, hard copies available in the St. John's office. Please send one check with your total benevolence offering.
Four Focus Organizations for Advent
Lutheran Disaster Response - December 1
Lutheran Disaster Response shares God's hope, healing and renewal with people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States and around the world. When the dust settles and the headlines change, LDR stays to provide ongoing assistance to those in need. In the last couple of years, LDR has been active internationally in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and nationally responding to wildfires in the west and hurricanes in the south.
Rwanda School Project - December 8
Following the Rwandan Genocide, the Rwanda School Project launched in response to the country’s need for secondary education. The Rwamagana Leaders’ School opened in 2010 to offer a secure and nurturing school environment that transforms vulnerable youth into future leaders and problem solvers who champion environmental sustainability and social change.
Central Downtown Food Basket - December 15
Born out of and originally operated at St. John’s, the Central Downtown Food Basket reliably provides healthy and fresh groceries with dignity and respect to the food insecure at mobile sites throughout Sacramento. They do this by being hands on with their distribution and bringing food directly to communities in need.
Downtown Streets Team - December 22
Downtown Streets Team Sacramento was launched in 2018 as a four-month pilot sponsored by the City of Sacramento. They currently support 40+ Team Members in Sacramento with intensive, opt-in case management and employment services, and a true sense of community. DST gathers every Wednesday in The Gathering Place at St. John’s for their Success Meetings as guests learn valuable employment skills and are equipped to serve the community.
