St. John's Scholarships

Each year, St. John’s awards scholarships to deserving students who apply and are chosen by the Scholarship Committee. The scholarship program exists to assist qualified students who are members of  St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sacramento, CA. Two St. John’s scholarships, each in the  amount of $3,000, and one Lawson scholarship of $1,200, for those entering an education career, will be awarded. $7,200 in Scholarships will soon be available to youth who are active members of St. John’s!


Applications for both Scholarships are due May 1, 2025.


The application for these scholarships will be available soon - we encourage you to begin preparing your application today!

Begin preparing your scholarship application today by:

  1. Prepare to get your high school or college transcripts with your GPA including high school class percentile ranking.
  2. Type a one-page, double-spaced essay describing your church activities and how “Living God’s Love in the World” plays a role in your life in pursuit of your professional goals.
  3. Type a one-page, double-spaced essay describing your interests, school activities and community service involvement.
  4. Type a one-page, double-spaced essay demonstrating your need for financial assistance and the planned use for these funds; this should involve a family discussion. All applications are confidential and destroyed afterwards.
  5. Have a teacher write a letter of recommendation. Have a pastor, church leader (clergy or lay) or other congregational member write a letter of recommendation for you.
  6. Lawson applicants write a one page double-spaced essay explaining how the church shaped your decision to pursue a career in education, how your experiences supported this decision and why and at what level you want to enter education.
