Coming Up at St. John's

Previously at Summer Blast...

Jessica, Veronica, and Nic told us the story of Joseph and his Brothers. His brothers were really mean to him, but Joseph loved them anyway. We all learned our memory verse: Love never fails! Candy and Darren taught us songs in African languages like Swahili. Cindy made all of the grown-ups use crayons during Bible Study. Meghan and Sara taught the kids how to paint with Crisco. And we made a love web with yarn.

And that's what you missed last night!

Tonight come learn all about Following!
Jessica, Veronica, and Nic will tell us the story of Jesus calling the Disciples...
We will sing more African songs...
Meghan and Sara are going to teach us how to make muddy footprint banners...
Pr. Frank will be talking about following Jesus with the grown-ups... And more!

Join us tonight starting at 5:30!

Check out the slideshow of what we did last night and get a feel for what you might get yourself into if you show up tonight.

Schedule
5:30pm - Dinner
6:15pm - Worship
6:40pm - Activities for All Ages
7:45pm - Closing Song

Family Promise Needs Games

St. John's will be hosting Family Promise beginning this Sunday, July 18. There are three families with nine children, ages ranging from 8 months to 14 years. We have a lack of entertainment available for these kids and are looking for donations of games, puzzles, balls, etc. for all ages to give them something to do in the evenings.

If you can make a donation, please bring it by the Youth Room or the church office on Sunday. Thank you in advance for your help. The kids will really appreciate your generosity.

Contact Peter Brostrom (brostrom@water.ca.gov) with any questions.

Our condolences go to the friends and families of two long-time members of St. John's.

Luther Bergdall passed away on Monday, July 5. His memorial service will be held at St. John's this Friday, July 9, at 2pm.

Frank MacBride passed away on Tuesday, July 6. His memorial service will be held at St. John's this Thursday, July 8, at 1pm.

Eternal God, your love is stronger than death, and your passion more fierce than the grace. We rejoice in the lives of those whom you have drawn into your eternal embrace. Keep us in joyful communion with them until we join the saints of every people and nation gathered before your throne in your ceaseless praise, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Note: The K Street Parking Garage is not open for St. John's use during the week. You may park on the street or in other public lots nearby.

SERVE: Habitat for Humanity Volunteers Needed

Our next Habitat Build Day is this coming Saturday, May 15. The date snuck up on us and we are looking for 10 volunteers to help raise the walls and 1-2 people to make lunches for the workers. If you would like to volunteer or want more information on the project, please contact Pastor Frank (916.947.6218, pastorfrank@stjohnslc.org) or Steve Ruder (916.412.0075).

CONNECT: Amgen Tour of California Bike Ride & Synod Youth Rwanda Fundraiser

This Sunday afternoon, May 16, the Amgen Tour of California will be whizzing by St. John's. We will be joining in the festivities by providing live music by Dead Scott (with our very own Brett Chance), barbecuing, and selling cow bells.

The money raised through the sale of the food, cowbells, and parking will be used to support the Synod Youth who will be traveling to Rwanda this summer.

The festivities will begin around 2pm and you are invited to join us for a special Rwanda-style FLOW worship service at 5pm. The offering taken will also benefit the Synod Youth going to Rwanda.

SERVE: Blood Drive - May 23

Our next blood drive will be on the morning of May 23. You may make an appointment by filling out the online form or by calling Nurse Cindy Carroll in the office (916.444.0874 x13).

Hot Dog Fellowship Lunch

Join us this Sunday in Oehler Hall immediately following the 11:30 am service for a hot dog lunch. Everyone is invited.

Sharing a meal together will strengthen our bonds, that we may more fully live as God's faithful people. We hope you can join us for this informal fellowship event.

Spanish Language Academy

Registration is open for the next session of the Spanish Language Academy. Learn Spanish in a relaxed and conversational style. Start from the beginning or jump into a more advanced class. There are classes available for all levels. Classes begin Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15.

Easter at St. John's

Trying to remember when our Easter services are? Let me help you out.

Sunday, April 4
6:30 am, 8:00 am, 9:30 am, 11:30 am

We are encouraging all you regular attenders to attend either the 8:00 am or 11:30 am services so that we don't have to turn visitors away from our most highly attended 9:30 am service. We want Easter to be an especially welcoming experience for those who are new to the St. John's community.

Spring Softball at St. John's

Are you interested in playing softball? St. John's is forming a team to play in a church league. We need about 20 players -- men and women. In fact, we must have 5 women playing at each game, so we need women, too!

When: Tuesday nights starting April 27
Where: Roosevelt Park (10th and T)

We will have a few practices before the first game, too.

Scott Davis has stepped up to be the coach and is organizing the team. Contact him by April 10 if you are interested in playing:
