Annual Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

Applications are now being accepted for the St. John's Scholarship and the Melvyn Lawson and Velma Kopka Lawson Scholarship. Overseen by the St. John's Scholarship Committee and Pastor Jon Haug, three scholarships in total will be awarded. Students who are members of the churches in the Capitol Valley Conference of the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) are invited to apply. The deadline for applications is Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Applications can either be mailed into the church office (St. John's Lutheran Church, 1701 L Street, Sacramento, CA 95811, ATTN: Scholarship Application) or via email to scholarships@stjohnslc.org.


St. John's Scholarship

The scholarship program exists to assist qualified students who are members of the churches in the Capitol Valley Conference of the Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Two scholarships, each in the amount of $1000, will be awarded annually. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need supported by academic performance and community service. The St. John's Scholarship is open to students active in churches in the Sacramento Conference of the ELCA’s Sierra Pacific Synod.

Melvyn Lawson and Velma Kopka Lawson Scholarship

The scholarship program exists to assist qualified students who are members of the churches in the Capitol Valley Conference of the Sierra-Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. One scholarship, in the amount of $1200, will be awarded biennially. The scholarship recipient must be pursuing a career in education. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need supported by academic performance and community service. The Melvyn Lawson and Velma Kopka Lawson Scholarship is open to students active in churches in the Sacramento Conference of the ELCA’s Sierra Pacific Synod.
